Chiropractic is a form of complimentary medicine that primarily deals with treating mechanical problems of the muscles, bones and joints. It entails application of manual therapy on the joints or soft tissues or works on spine manipulation. Chiropractors aim to reduce the patient’s pain by improving spinal mobility, and functionality by reducing pressure on the nerve tissues. They educate patients on the required exercises. They provide ergonomic supports and alternate therapies to treat back pains and re-build altered reflexes too when necessary.

To become a chiropractor, one must attain a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) and a license to practice in the state. Depending on the state, one may or may not need to have a bachelors degree before the DC degree. Doctor of Chiropractic program is a 4-year long course and requires specialized training in subjects like biology, chemistry and physics, with both, laboratory and lecture components.

There are 16 CCE accredited member schools that offer chiropractic courses. Here are some of the most renowned schools in the US:

 

Palmer College of Chiropractic:

  • Started by David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic cure, the Palmer College of Chiropractic has chiropractic schools in various locations, like, Davenport, West Campus and Florida.
  • The Council of Chiropractic Education has professionally accredited the DC program in this chiropractic school.
  • School and transfer credits, GPA, courses opted and degrees earned are all factored in for the admission process.

Dr. Elon Bartlett who is specialized in carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue, prenatal and post-partum is a graduate from Palmer College of Chiropractic and accepts new patients at syncH.

 

Life Chiropractic College West

  • Founded in 1976, students from Life Chiropractic College West consistently stand in the top 10 of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
  • Admission to this world’s largest chiropractic program needs minimum 90 transferable semester units or 135 quarter units.
  • Earlier known as the Pacific State Chiropractic College, the college has a long legacy and strong focus on vitalistic philosophy of healing.
  • The 14 quarter-long Doctor of Chiropractic program ensures adequate hands-on exposure to students preparing them for real patients in clinics.
  • Also, admissions take place every quarter, not just twice a year.

Dr. Ernesto Medina, who is specialized in functional neurology, thyroid disorders, cognitive and memory loss earned his DC degree from Life Chiropractic College West.

Dr. Eric Glenn, who is specialized in chronic fatigue, shoulder and lower back pain and weight loss, also holds a DC degree from the same school. Both Dr. Glenn and Dr. Medina accept new patients through syncH.

 

University of Western States

  • The University Of Western States is the second oldest chiropractic school, offering a Doctor of Chiropractic. However, as chiropractic schools go, it is one of the best in the world today. The University of Western States offers a DC program with emphasis on patient assessment, effective treatment, patient management and documentation, legal refrains and code of conduct, and importance of the revolutionary functional and alternative medicines.
  • Along with these, their DC course is just 12 quarters long.
  • They offer their students schedule flexibility, giving the students an option to complete the course in 3 years itself, if they so wish.

 

Parker University

  • Parker University chiropractic school offers a 10 trimester Doctor of Chiropractic program.
  • Using an integrated clinical approach with emphasis on research, the Chiropractic School of the Parker University offers a competent and comprehensive curriculum.
  • For admission to this chiropractic school, the prospective students need a minimum of 0 GPA with 90 hours of undergraduate course work with a minimum of 24 semester hours invested in physical and life sciences wherein the subjects incorporate at least half of the time in laboratory studies. At least one course in Human Anatomy (and Physiology) and General Chemistry is a must. Apart from the sciences, English, Psychology, Business and communication and Social Science are encouraged for all-round development of the students.
  • An interview or examination (prior to admissions) may be requested by the Admissions Committee.

 

Logan University

  • The Chiropractic School of the Logan University has a unique approach to the Doctor of Chiropractic program. They offer research-infused, technologically advanced studies that help create evidence based, practiced chiropractors for tomorrow.
  • They also offer a complete scholarship to the student with the highest GPA score at the end of the first trimester for the remainder of their Doctor of Chiropractic course at the university.
  • While this particular chiropractic school highly advocates a bachelors degree to be earned before the Doctor of Chiropractic program, they do offer other ways to gain admittance for the same. Namely,
  • A 3+3 program wherein the student first enrolls for the BSc in Life Sciences program, thus securing a seat for the DC program later on
  • It also offers an early college credit program for the high school students; and
  • It offers an Alternate Admission Track program for those lacking the required pre-education for the DC program but possessing a strong passion for healing.

 

National University of Health Sciences

  • Chiropractic school at National University of Health Sciences offers new adjustment methods, research opportunities and advanced technological knowledge to its DC students.
  • The most crucial aspect that sets this university apart from others is their Dual Degrees program wherein every student enrolling in their DC program, has the opportunity to enroll for the dual degree program. It offers the students the opportunity to graduate in two different areas at the same time.
  • They also offer various Post-Professional programs, ranging from masters to residency, to the post-DC students.
  • The Advanced Scholars Program awards students the chance to complete their BSc and DC within a staggering 6.5 years as their first year in the DC program counts as the first year in the BSc as well.

 

Along with these schools, there are a few more chiropractic schools in the USA – Life University, University of Bridgeport and Southern California University of Health Sciences that are renowned. There are now around 20 more chiropractic schools around the world in countries like Japan, Switzerland, Australia and the United Kingdom, should any prospective student wish to study abroad for the same.
